How to read these records

Issued

The DLI's own rule: a current, active license or registration has the status “Issued”. Everything else — expired, voluntary termination, revoked, suspended — is listed under “other records on file”, with the DLI's word.

License kinds

Residential building contractor, remodeler and roofer licenses; electrical contractor licenses; plumbing contractor licenses; the mechanical contractor bond; pipelaying and sign contractor bonds; high pressure piping and elevator contractors. “Registered electrical employer” and “registered plumbing employer” are businesses that employ registered workers in those trades.

A “certificate of exemption” is not a license: it records that a business is exempt from the residential contractor license. The DLI's own page explains the conditions.

One record per business

The DLI files have no business number. Licenses are grouped when the business name and ZIP code are the same; a business with two addresses appears twice.

What is not here

Individual licensees, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, and the DLI's enforcement indicator — a yes/no flag with no date or subject, which this site does not repeat. Check enforcement actions on the DLI's own lookup.
